Product in times of social distancing

In the last few months, the world as we know it has changed to a world of distancing. Enjoying social events, unaware of the approaching change, could not have been taken for granted, had we known the upcoming events. In fact, it’s been a few months already, of a completely different world and environment.

A world with Millions of different products, out of them tens of thousands of Technological products, cannot remain the same when it comes to Product Management.

One of the main qualities of the Product Management field is the ongoing monitoring and analyzing, in order to create improvements and revisions, so that a product would match as perfect as possible to the goals.

Such goals would possibly require matching our products to the new era, even if a semi-temporarily one. We should keep in mind that if our organization’s goal is to increase income  (like most organizations), then increasing monetization and ROI should still be our guideline principle when we work with our product, vision, roadmap and even priorities, meaning “Business as usual”.

Revising products to match the new era, includes not only changes and updates to features, but creating completely new ones, as well as using new segmentation types that have never existed before. A person of age and a young person with a health risk background have much more in common these days, then previously, at least in the product management field.

New and revised functions and features, as well as product changes, might be useful to test, in order to be added to support this era new reality. An example for such could be a “Instant order return” button from within an app, for users who would not leave their house. A button that did not exist before since it was much less relevant in Feb 2020 or earlier per say. We’ve learned that often increasing user satisfaction with a product or a service, would also increase user retention. We want users to return our product or service these days, and increase rates of conversions and monetization. Adjusting our product to social distancing era could greatly assist with that.

In the world of Product Management, that almost always goes hand in hand with the business world, each product type, including in technology, requires ongoing monitoring and creative thinking, in order to improve our company's goals. We’re here to assist with that.
